Programme description
Main objectives
The Cooperation programme 'Interreg V-A Slovenia-Austria" aims at fostering cross-border cooperation along the Austro-Slovenian border.
Strategically, the programme focusses on joint research and innovation to foster the border region's competitiveness, on environmental protection and the joint management of natural resources, on cross-border business cooperation and on closer co-operation in legal and administrative questions to create a better integrated border region
To achieve these strategic objectives, the programme aims at enhancing joint research capacities and institutional links between research and SME in the region; at improving the protection and development of the region's rich cultural and natural heritage; at increasing the ecological stability of natural habitats and water bodies; and at improving cross-border governance structures and institutional cooperation in the fields of risk management, health and energy.

The programme will focus on the following four priorities:

- Increased R&D intensity in the border region
- Increase in exporting companies and SME
- Increased attractiveness of the border region for tourism
- Decrease in length of border rivers with unsatisfactory water qualiy
- Increase in level of cooperation among citizens and municipalities
- Better institutional cooperation in the areas of energy, health and risk management
