Programme description
Main objectives
The ERDF Programme aims to boost economic growth and contribute to achieving the Europe 2020 targets for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as the realisation of economic, social and territorial cohesion in an urban region. EU funding will be targeted according to the specific strengths and development needs of the region. 19% of the overall budget is allocated to research and innovation, 29% to competitiveness of SMEs and 34% to low carbon economy.
Funding priorities
The Programme will focus on the following priorities:
- Strengthening research, technological development and innovation
- Enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs
- Supporting the shift towards a low-carbon economy in all sectors
- Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency
- Promoting social inclusion, combating poverty and any discrimination
Expected impacts
- Gross domestic expenditure on research and development by sector increases to 1.5% of GDP
- 66% of the enterprises will have innovation activities (technological and non-technological)
- 160,000 employees and 9,500 enterprises of less than 50 employees in promising sectors will benefit from support
- Reduction by 6% of the total energy consumption of the tertiary and industry sectors and by 5% of the public administrations and housing
