The construction of new production facilities will enable a high-tech company to begin manufacturing cutting edge landing gear products for the aviation industry. The new production plants in the southern Polish region of Podkarpacie will employ at least 201 people and be equipped with the very latest manufacturing technologies.

This project was carried out at two locations: Krosno and Tajęcina. In Tajęcina a new production plant was built, while in Krosno, an old facility not currently in use was completely refurbished. Both new facilities will be able to manufacture aviation equipment for civilian and military use.
Cutting edge production and testing equipment have been installed. The construction of these new facilities - made possible thanks to EU funding - will enable the company to capitalise on the very latest land gear technology, such as pistons and cylinders, developed within the last year or so.
Cutting edge facilities
The new greenfield development in Tajęcina consists of an industrial hall, social facilities for workers and an extensive administrative room. There is a chemical laboratory and new equipment for testing heat-treated products. The new industrial hall is equipped with a new water system, sewage system and a network of electricity and heat. The entire built area is over 7 000 m2.
Renovated production facilities in Krosno have been equipped with special lines for the production of PLCs (programmable logic controllers) along with equipment used for landing gear components. State-of-the-art tools have been introduced that can be used for the dynamic analysis of machine parameters (temperature, rigidity and lubrication, for example).
Efficiency gains
These dynamic analysis tools will make it possible to group operations previously carried out separately, reduce production time and increase the quality of these operations at the same time. The project team estimates that processing times can be reduced by around 20 %. The company will be able to prepare an integrated aircraft component production system that is tailored to a customer’s specific technical requirements.
The company involved in the project, UTC Aerospace Systems, is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defence products. The company designs, manufactures and services systems and components and provides integrated solutions for commercial, regional and business aircraft, helicopters and other units. The company is also a major supplier to international space programmes.
Components manufactured by the company are sold to producers of airplanes such as Boeing, Airbus and Lockheed Martin, wherein the technological process includes such operations as machining, heat treatment, surface treatment, assembly and final quality control. As the company will produce elements for both civilian and military use, eligible costs were reduced by 5 % as the ERDF cannot co-finance investments in the military sector.
Total investment and EU funding
Total investment for the project “Construction of a production plant manufacturing new products for the aviation industry with the use of innovative technologies” is EUR 64 974 991, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 12 363 722 through the “Innovative Economy” Operational Programme for the 2007-2013 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Investments in innovative projects”.
