Płock hospital refurbishment provides better services for the local community

  • 09 October 2015

The expansion of the provincial hospital in Płock has brought about significant improvements in the provision of paediatric, oncology, bacteriology and dialysis.

Implementation of the project, by increase of treatment and diagnosis possibilities, provided an access to specialised medical services for the people of the region. Hospitalisation conditions and working conditions have significantly improved. Four years after the project, it is hard to imagine the Regional Hospital in Plock functioning at current level without the investment.

Better patient services

Seen as one of the most important healthcare projects in the Mazovian region, the project has improved patient care and staff working conditions and has raised the overall level of healthcare provision for the region. The improved range of services that may now be offered mean the effective diagnosis and treatment of diseases and the provision of a much higher standard of care.

New equipment and beds

The 12 337 m2 of modernised floor space in the two-storey building now provides 75 new beds and a total of 16 new dialysis stations. The dialysis machinery allows many more people access to dialysis near to their home. Another major improvement was the upgraded pharmacy unit, which is now capable of producing its own anti-cancer drugs and provides the necessary equipment and expertise for an intravenous nutrition laboratory. The children's wards have been upgraded to include private bathrooms and separate rooms for parents.

Much improved patient numbers

A comparison with the figures for 2009 shows an overall increase in the number of patients treated. In 2013, paediatrics saw 849 more patients, Oncology services had 1 134 more patients, and nephrology (kidney patient) numbers increased to 652. By far the biggest impact was made in the field of dialysis, showing an increase of 3 708 more dialysis treatments over the period.
