Extending the sewage and water supply networks in Gdańsk

This scheme will enable the Gdańsk level of sewer channeling to increase to 99.4 %, while the degree of water supply system will rise to 99.6 %. The sewer system functions due to a gravity-pumping system consisting of 74 pumping stations connected to the Gdańsk – East treatment plant. The target capacity of the project is 860 000 PE (population equivalent).

The initiative includes:

building 28.5 km of sanitary sewerage network;rebuilding or overhauling 6.7 km of the existing sanitary sewerage network;building 15.5 km and upgrading 1 km of water-supply network;upgrading one treatment plant for sludge management;sealing two bioreactors;constructing, modernising, or removing various sewage pumping stations

These works are being performed in an environment-friendly fashion.

Meeting the needs of people and facilities

Beneficiaries include the 2 900 residents who will gain access to the extended sanitary sewers, as well as approximately 3 000 people who will have access to good quality water from the central aqueduct. The new sewer and water supply system will also meet the needs of the stadium in Gdansk Letnica.

In all, 120 jobs are expected to be created upon completion of the project.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Water and wastewater management in Gdansk – Phase II” is EUR 86 210 302, of which the EU’s Cohesion Fund is contributing EUR 40 882 315 from the Operational Programme “Infrastructure and Environment” from the 2007 to 2013 programming period. Work falls under the priority axis “Water and sewage management”.
