A project to build a 17 km stretch of the S7 expressway has provided motorists with a better link between the towns of Radom and Jędrzejów. The revamped route offers quicker journey times and improved road safety.
Construction of expressway S7 between Skarżysko-Kamienna and Występa in eastern Poland delivers multiple benefits to road users
- 04 August 2014
The work is part of a larger scheme to build the S7 between Gdansk and Rabka, which is one of Poland’s key road transport routes. This new section has increased road capacity, increased travel comfort and helped to lower vehicle emissions. Over the years, the improved accessibility offered by the S7 should also increase the region’s economic attractiveness and help to draw in more investors.
Comprehensive scheme
Construction included upgrading the Skarżysko Kamienna to Suchedniów section of the existing DK7 national road to expressway standard, as well as building an expressway along an entirely new route between Suchedniów and Występa. The scheme included construction of access roads and two interchanges at Suchedniów and Zalezianka.
In addition, existing roads which intersect the expressway were extended and upgraded – work here included the construction of eight flyovers. Four service areas, various small bridges, overpasses, wildlife crossovers, footbridges and culverts were also integral to the building programme, as was the introduction of various road safety features. Environmental protection measures formed part of the scheme and included the erection of noise barriers and the construction of storm drains.
Time savings
The new road provides two lanes in each direction and is designed to handle maximum speeds of 100 km/hour and vehicle weights of 115 kN/tonne. Time savings accruing from this stretch of the S7 are estimated at EUR 11 355 790 per annum for passenger vehicles and EUR 3 363 616 for commercial vehicles.
Total investment and EU funding
Total investment for the project “Construction of expressway S7 Radom (Jedlińsk) – Jędrzejów, section Skarżysko-Kamienna - Występa” is EUR 167 754 771, of which the EU’s Cohesion Fund is contributing EUR 119 134 057 from the Operational Programme “Infrastructure and Environment” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period under the priority "Transport safety and national transport network".
