Young people present the Baltic Sea Youth Declaration 2022 for a sustainable Baltic Sea Region during the EUSBSR Annual Forum.

During the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) Annual Forum that was held in Lappeenranta, Finland, on 28-29 September 2022, youth representatives of the Baltic Sea Youth Camp 2022 and the Baltic Sea Youth Platform presented their recommendations and new impulses for building more resilient societies within the Baltic Sea Region in the Baltic Sea Youth Declaration 2022

A collaborative effort gathering the views of over 200 young people, the declaration contains concrete recommendations for implementing the EUSBSR strategy – the EU macro-regional strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. It also includes recommendations on enhancing meaningful youth participation and, in general, improving the state of the Baltic Sea Region.

The Baltic Sea Youth Declaration 2022 is the third of its kind and a follow-up of the declarations from 2019 and 2020.

Within the framework of the European Year of Youth 2022 and the Youth4Cooperation initiative, the city of Lappeenranta and the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) ran a project funded by the Erasmus+ programme to enable young people to bring their ideas forth to all levels of the EUSBSR.

The CBSS – an intergovernmental organisation in the region – recently institutionalised its work on youth, by creating the Baltic Sea Region Youth Forum which will continue promoting youth activities within the EUSBSR, the CBSS and the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC), as well as many other partners.
