This university debate, an initiative of the Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) was developed with the support of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP).

In this year dedicated to youth (#EuropeanYearOfYouth), the European Commission strives to engage the young leaders of tomorrow. In the presence of Sofia Alves, Director for Administrative Capacity Building and Programme Implementation in DG REGIO, more than two dozen FEP students will discuss Europe's future in terms of sustainability, climate action, digital transformation and employment in a unique debate - in Portuguese - with the Portuguese Minister of Territorial Cohesion, the Vice-Mayor of Porto and other business representatives.

At the forefront of the debate is the comprehensive and ambitious recovery plan launched in response to the coronavirus pandemic, including REACT-EU (Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe), one of the largest programmes under the new instrument Next Generation EU amounting to EUR 50.6 billion.

These new investments will have a direct and significant impact on future generations. As such, the European Commission is deeply committed to involve young people and as well their opinions, that matter and are considered, in the React-EU plan and their future developments.
