EU Cohesion Policy: European Commission approves first regional programme for the period 2021-2027

Today, the European Commission has approved the first regional programme for the period 2021-2027, for the German region “Schleswig-Holstein”.

Schleswig-Holstein which also refers to itself as “the real North” is in the very North of Germany, bordering Denmark. It is framed by the North and Baltic Seas to the West and East. For the period 2021-2027, the region receives an allocation of more than €272 million. The resources will mainly contribute to foster innovation and the green transition in Schleswig-Holstein. 40% of the EU funding will be dedicated to climate protection and 29% to environmental protection.

Another priority will be the digital transition and fostering the competitiveness in the region. For example, the planned project “Digital Learning Campus” establishes a multi-adaptive, individualised hybrid education hub that integrates actors such as businesses, universities, open (city) places and research institutions. The European Regional Development Fund will invest in innovation for Small-and Medium-Sized Enterprises and provide them with resources to try out new methods, go greener, and aim for new markets.

Schleswig-Holstein has already shown in the previous funding period that ERDF-supported projects linking science and innovation with arts and culture and a holistic approach can provide accessible, affordable, and life improving solutions for all, for example, for sustainable shipping.

The programme with Schleswig-Holstein is the first programme under the “Investments for Jobs and Growth” goal for the funding period 2021-2027.
