The official launch of the Italian EUSALP Presidency will take place in hybrid format in Bolzano on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.

Under the motto “e di là uscimmo a riveder le stelle" (“and thence we came forth to see the stars again”), Italy will officially take over the Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region next week. Building on the successful work of the French EUSALP Presidency, the Italian Presidency will now continue the transformation of the Alpine Region into an attractive, competitive and green region. The incoming Presidency will present its programme at the kick-off event on 26 January in Bolzano.
The initiatives of the Presidency will be guided by the long-term goal of making the Alpine region the first European carbon-neutral macro-region, in line with the EU Climate Action and the European Green Deal. Some of the proposed actions will include
- Tackling climate change by promoting energy efficiency and energy transition,
- Fostering smart villages and sustainable local development,
- Youth empowerment within EUSALP, in relation to the European Year of Youth,
- Continuation of ongoing initiatives: sustainable tourism and transport; cooperation on natural risk management and spatial planning; multifunctional forests, and
- Strengthening EUSALP governance and collaboration amongst EUSALP bodies, focusing on Action Groups.
