REACT-EU: Commission approves more than €114 million of additional resources for a green and digital recovery in France and Austria

The Commission has granted more than €114 million to France and Austria under the Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (REACT-EU) following the modification of two Operational Programmes (OP) of the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF).

In France, the OP for Corse will receive additional resources of €25.6 million for the tourism and culture sectors including for the creation of a tourism living lab or eco-friendly tourism, as well as measures on digitalisation, such as the provision of schools with digital devices.

Further investments will be supporting the green transition including in energy-efficient buildings, green mobility and small and medium-sized businesses and social infrastructures such as emergency shelters for homeless people.

In Austria, the national ESF OP ‘Employment’ will receive an additional €88.5 million to support young people impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and those who lost their jobs due to the crisis. Specialised services will help pupils in schools, and people to transition from school to a job. Support measures will also help to avoid early dropouts from education and vocational training.

In addition, the new money will fund training for unemployed people to improve their skills and develop new ones, with a focus on healthcare, information and communication technologies, sustainability, and the circular economy.

REACT-EU is part of NextGenerationEU and provides €50.6 billion additional funding (in current prices) over the course of 2021 and 2022 to Cohesion Policy programmes.
