To increase the attractiveness of water tourism in Poland’s scenic Masurian lake district, two locks and eight canals will be modernised under a project supported by the ERDF.
Water tourist routes covering 14.76 km will be reconstructed or modernised along eight canals. The Guzianka II lock will be built between Lake Beldahn and the Guzianka lakes and the existing Guzianka I lock will be renovated.
The work will improve the safety of and conditions for tourist, sports and passenger navigation. It will also increase the capacity of the waterways and encourage the development of tourist infrastructure and entrepreneurship. This should help increase the economic competitiveness and attractiveness of the Masuria region.
EU funding is EUR 55.3 million (PLN 250 million) of the total project costs of EUR 81.86 million (PLN 370 million).
The Warmia-Masuria province is popular with sailors and nature lovers. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it continues to attract visitors to its quiet, uncrowded locations.
