- 08 December 2020

DG REGIO will be holding a Special Session at the Citizen Engagement and Deliberative Democracy Festival, on Thursday 10, 9:30-11:00am (CET).
The event “Citizen Engagement Strategies: putting participation in Cohesion policy into practice”, will feature an interactive debate between Claudia Chwalisz (OECD), Sandor Lederer (K-Monitor), and Francesco Amodeo (DG REGIO), with contributions from Karolis Granickas (Open Contracting Partnership) and Patrick Lavelle (EC), and moderated by Ramses Grande (DG REGIO). The panelists will discuss challenges and strategies for citizen participation in the management of Cohesion policy funds, and present capacity building tools and actions for managing authorities and civil society actors.
You can enroll for the Festival and find the full programme here. The Festival will be held online this year through the new EU Academy platform. The link to the Special Session can be found in the programme for Thursday 10.
The 3rd edition of the Citizen Engagement and Deliberative Democracy Festival will run from 6-12 December. The Festival is an open event, aiming to bring together people that are interested in, and working on, citizen engagement and deliberative democracy. Events such as the Citizen Engagement and Deliberative Democracy Festival are more critical than ever in contributing to public and policy discussions on the future of democracy and how to implement more participatory practices in EU policymaking.
The Festival features addresses by Commissioner Mariya Gabriel as well as Vice-Presidents Dubravka Šuica and Věra Jourová, who are coordinating the Commission’s work on ‘A new push for democracy in Europe’ including the Conference on the Future of Europe and the European Democracy Action Plan.
The week’s agenda includes thought-provoking live and asynchronous discussions with key practitioners on citizen engagement and deliberative democracy policy in the EU, as well as a video show and exhibition of citizen engagement projects and live artwork.
