Thanks to the ERDF, the Acasus centre for sustainable living and construction, in the Flemish city of Veurne, has a new home that better reflects its values.

The building, in Pannestraat, is intended to serve as an example of sustainable building and renovation. It has an open-plan central area that connects studios, an advice point and a reception. Two new green zones have also been developed.

The centre is on the site of the POM West Flanders, a government agency that supports entrepreneurs, and a neighbouring building. These were partially demolished and renovated to make way for the new venue.

The structure has a permanent exhibition on themes such as mobility, biodiversity, energy and health. A demonstration section features business cases and completed projects which are designed to inspire entrepreneurs in the construction sector. There are three start-up offices and a seminar room with seating for 80 people.

Acasus, an initiative by the province of West Flanders and POM West Flanders, is aimed at both individuals and organisations.

The ERDF is providing EUR 519 452 (40 %) of the EUR 1 298 630 total project cost. The province and POM are financing the balance.
