An ERDF-funded project has enabled the launch of two new craft beers in the Outer Hebrides in response to growing demand for local food and drink in the area.

The ERDF-funded project financed business advice, networking opportunities and the scaling up of Loomshed, a recent entrepreneurial endeavour established in the Outer Hebrides, a chain of islands lying off the north-west coast of Scotland in the UK.

Loomshed has now launched two beers – one India pale ale or IPA and a craft lager – which pay tribute to their island heritage and reflect British and Scottish brewing traditions. The beers contain British hops and Scottish barley and are brewed with Hebridean water.

The funding was invested in essential equipment to develop a cost-efficient production system, as well as expert advice on design and marketing for the products.

The ERDF-funded project helped Loomshed to quickly scale up their operations and start selling the beers in bars and restaurants across the islands, where there is growing demand for local food and drink products.
