Disabled people can expect better access to the seaside in the Greek municipality of Messinia. An ERDF-funded project is installing infrastructure so that people with limited mobility can enjoy four of the municipality’s beaches.

Self-operated swimming chair ramps, wheelchair-friendly non-slip beach paths and chemical toilets and changing rooms for people with disabilities are being installed at Bouka, Analipsi, Petalidi and Agios Andreas beaches.

The project is part of a wider drive to ensure that people with disabilities can more easily visit the beautiful beaches of the Peloponnese peninsula. In addition to the infrastructure planned by the Municipality of Messinia for these four beaches, the Municipalities of Kalamata and Western Mani are planning to install or extend similar infrastructure on beaches in their own tourist resorts.
