Ultra-fast broadband for Brittany, France

An ERDF-funded project is making very high speed broadband available to all households in Brittany by 2030, improving the rural region’s competitiveness and quality of life.
The project is rolling out a fibre optic broadband network that will cover the whole of Brittany. Around one million homes, businesses and public services are covered by the investment.
In 2013, only 6.2 % of the population were connected to high speed broadband, due to poor transport infrastructure and a population density of only 120 inhabitants per km2. Better access to high-speed broadband reduces the region’s isolation and allows local industries such as maritime science and agrifood to access new markets in France and internationally.
EU funds are speeding up the rollout. Nearly 70 % of people will be connected by 2023 instead of the 40 % who would be connected without EU funds, according to the European Commission.
