The ERDF is funding two transport projects in the Nitra region of Slovakia with the aim of improving the quality of life of the local population and reviving economic opportunities in the area.
The two ERDF-funded projects plan to develop transport links across the border between Slovakia and Hungary. The first will construct a bridge over the River Ipel’ and a road between the villages of Chl’aba in Slovakia and Ipolydamásd in Hungary. Today, it is impossible to travel the 1.2 km from one village to the other without taking an additional 25 km detour to cross the river.
The second project will co-fund a ferry to Neszmély and a local road in an effort to improve connectivity for residents in the area.
Both of these projects – 85 % co-funded by the ERDF, with the rest of the funding coming from Hungary and Slovakia – are aiming to connect up Slovakia and Hungary’s border regions to improve the quality of life for the regions’ inhabitants.
