An ERDF-funded project has plans to develop Warsaw’s first eco park in the post-industrial surroundings of the former Ursus factory. Its goal is to rejuvenate the area and improve the quality of life for its residents.

The ERDF-funded ‘Creating ECOpark’ project will take on several challenges, including cleaning up the area, dividing it into separate zones, replacing invasive plant species with native species, and bringing nature and biodiversity back to this urban-industrial area.

The project will also develop educational activities, playgrounds, and recreational and performance zones in the park. Following a consultation on local residents’ wishes, the park will now incorporate dog walking areas and workout equipment, too. It will also be entirely adapted to the needs of the disabled.

In conjunction with these new developments, efforts will be made to ensure that the resources used for this park are as eco-friendly as possible. Rainwater reservoirs are planned, lighting will be powered by solar panels, and construction materials will be recycled and eco-friendly where possible.

Ultimately, the ECOpark project is aiming to create a place of recreation and relaxation – a sustainable haven of nature, peace and quiet in the heart of post-industrial Warsaw.
