By improving cross-border cooperation, resource efficiency and knowledge exchange, the ERDF-funded ‘Aeris’ project aims to innovate companies in the aeronautical sectors in Spain and Portugal.
The aeronautical industry is a key sector in the Andalusian economy and has been crucial to the region’s recovery since the financial crisis. The industry employs 13 740 directly in the region, as well as fostering another 12 000 jobs indirectly.
Thanks to the companies’ participation in European aeronautical programmes; research, development and investment; and high-quality production facilities, the employment figures are almost double what they were 10 years ago, before the crisis.
This project now aims to continue to drive such investment, innovation and quality by creating a joint strategy for the aeronautical industries in both Andalusia, Spain and Alentejo, Portugal.
The project aims to improve the existing physical infrastructures within the aerospace industry – including technology centres, business incubators and business parks – as along with other assets such as software and knowledge networks – across both territories. The project partners hope this will result in more investment, innovation and competitiveness within the aeronautical sectors in both countries.
