The hospital centre of Cova da Beira in the region of Covilhã, Portugal, will be receiving EUR 756 000 from the ERDF to modernise its surgery block, post-anaesthetic care and sterilisation units. Co-funded by the EU at over 50 %, the total investment of the initiative amounts to more than EUR 1.2 million.

In particular, this funding will prioritise the modernisation, upgrade and renewal of important technical equipment in the hospital. In turn, these new tools should improve the quality of life of the local and regional population by improving their primary healthcare services.

This project is just one of 12 that have been approved for Portugal’s Central Region through the EU’s Portugal 2020 programme. For example, EUR 3.2 million has also been earmarked for the renovation and expansion of the Amato Lusitano Hospital in Castelo Branco.
