The European Commission adopted the 2014-2020 “Operational Programmes” for 5 Spanish regions: Aragón, Asturias, Castilla y León, Madrid and Melilla. These programmes will strengthen regional competitiveness, create new opportunities for growth, and improve the quality of life of its citizens and businesses. Together, they will benefit from investments of up to €987 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Funding will channel vital investments into research and development (R&D), supporting private enterprises to conduct R&D activities, strengthening cooperation between enterprises and research institutions and boosting private investments in R&D. The funds will help small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) innovate and expand towards new markets, in line with the regions' "smart specialisation" strategies.
