Regional OP Azores (Autonomous Region)

Programme description

Main objectives

The Operational Programme "Regional Azores 2014-2020" is a multi-fund Programme with contributions from the European Regional Development Fund and European Social Funds for the period 2014-2020, covering the the outermost region of Azores. The total allocation of the Operational Programme comes to EUR 1.4 billion with a financial contribution of EUR 1.1 billion from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF).

The programme aims to contribute to the fulfilment of the Europe 2020 strategy namely by

(i) fostering Research and Develoipment (R&D) knowledge transfer to SMEs,

(ii) promoting the competitivess of the businesses of the region,

(iii) promoting sustainable transport chiefly by developing and improving low-carbon transport systems,

(iv) investing in education, training and vocational training for skills and lifelong learning,

(v) supporting the development of renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency in enterprises and buildings and

(vi) promoting sustainable and quality employment and supporting labour mobility.

Funding priorities

The Programme will focus on twelve main priorities, including one concerning the special allocation for the outermost region:

  • Research, technological development and innovation;
  • Enhancing access to, and use and quality of ICT;
  • Competitiveness of the region's businesses;
  • Low-carbon economy;
  • Climate change, risk prevention and management;
  • Environment and resource efficiency;
  • Sustainable transport and key network infrastructures;
  • Employment and labour mobility;
  • Social inclusion and combating poverty;
  • Education and lifelong learning;
  • Institutional capacity and efficient public administration;
  • Specific additional allocation for the outermost region.

Expected impacts

  • Creation of 325 new SMEs
  • Investment in 720 existing SMEs
  • Yearly reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 47,435 CO2 equivalent tons
  • Create 2845 jobs
