Title: Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis (TAS) - Migration Labs
Summary
The partners (Italy, Belgium, Serbia, Romania, Portugal) will organise 5 workshops and 1 final international event to raise their awareness on the different migrants’ groups in Europe (European and non-European migrants) and on the different patterns, paths and specificities related to their migration. The workshops will also analyse how the countries reacted from becoming a migrants’ host country to a migrants’ sending one. Each workshops round will have 1 EU policy maker participate via video conference in 1 of the workshops, 1 migrant volunteer trainer and each workshop will have 1 representative from another partner country. The 5 workshops will be structured in a thesis, antithesis and synthesis format (TAS): during the first 2 thesis workshops the beneficiaries will be presented with key concepts and an overview of the migrants’ groups, their history, present, migration patterns and paths will be shared, and debates and round tables will be set up. During the two antithesis workshops, counter narratives on common migrants and refugees-related misconceptions and stereotypes will be discussed (e.g. anti-African, anti-Muslim, antigypsyism, antisemitic or other prejudices, and related anti-migrant propaganda). The fifth synthesis workshop will see the creation by each partner’s beneficiaries of a recommendation paper to be presented to EU policy makers during the international event. The papers will contain the beneficiaries’ opinions on the analysed migrations (thesis); their view on the stereotypes and counter narratives that they themselves will produce (antithesis); and the proposed solutions to the policy makers (synthesis). The beneficiaries will be informed of democratic and civic involvement opportunities such as the Structured Dialogues and the EU Solidarity Corps. The project will involve EU Solidarity Corps Volunteers in volunteering activities related to migrants and migration according to the specificity of each hosting partner organisation.
