Programme: Europe for Citizens
Identifier: 588974-CITIZ-1-2017-1-ES-CITIZ-CIV
Title: The route of solidarity: citizens pathways toward an inclusive Europe
Summary
The project consisted in eight international meetings that took place in Mediterranean borders and transit cities (Rome, Seville, Ceuta, Zagreb, Lesbos, Thessaloniki, Palermo, Pula) involving, in the mobility, citizens active in the field of solidarity projects and voluntary initiatives with migrants and refugees. Six meetings were dedicated to the exchange of best practices, to the network building, to the streghtening of participant's knowledge about borders situations in the Mediterranean region and to the discussion of EU migration policies. One meeting was dedicated to the production of a Web-doc. The closing meeting was dedicated to the public outreach and the presentation of the results. The project directly involved an overall number of 549 participants and 65 organizations and groups from Spain, Croatia, Italy and Greece. The main results of the projects are: Empowerment of the participants: strengthened knowledge about Mediterranean borders situation and condition of migrants in transit cities; improved advocacy skills and knowledge on the EU migration policies; increased international collaborations and networking opportunities. An international loose network of citizens active in the field of solidarity and social inclusion with migrants and refugees established. Raised voice and visibility of the grass-root solidarity initiatives and good practices of migrants and refugees' reception and integration.A debate on EU migration policies generated and a common message agreed and delivered to the EU decision makers. A new multimedia counter-narrative tool on migration issues produced and widely dissminated  The two main concrete outputs of the project are:A Web-doc:An interactive online platform containing two sections: 1) borders situation 2) solidarity stories with migrants/refugees in the Mediterranean. The contents includes good practices and initiatives of solidarity in each of the four countries; life story telling by migrants and refugees themselves, references to all the organizations/groups/collectives that took part in the project. Project's partners joined the effort for the creation of the web-doc and its circulation beyond the termination of the action.Www.solidarityroute.euThe Manifesto, a common statement titled “Dont let humanity drown” addressing MEPs and candidates of the forthcoming European elections was the result of a collaborative work among the participants of all eight meetings. The statement while recalling the fundamental values on which the European Union is founded and that are enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, namely respect for human dignity, equality, democracy, and respect for human rights are worryingly at risk, addresses five man policy issues:1) Stop the deaths in the Mediterranean sea, the violence at the borders and along the routes2) Stop the criminalization of solidarity.3) Counteract hate speech by enforcing a positive narrative of coexistence 4) Eliminate hotspots, make homes5) Stop deportations and illegal push backsThe manifesto was circulated, trough a web-action, organized with a coordinated effort of all the participating organizations.https://www.apdha.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/MANIFIESTO_FINAL_EN_TROS.pdf
