Title: DEAL4EU: Youth ambassators for European Green Deal
Summary
"DEAL4EU: Youth ambassadors for European Green " represents a network of towns created by the Europe for Citizens programme (Council Regulation (EU) No 390/2014). More than 460 youngsters from 8 different European towns, from 8 different European countries were directly involved in the DEAL4EU Project, namely: Catral (Spain), Leeuwarden (Netherlands), Portogruaro (Italy), Athienou (Cyprus), Sofia (Bulgaria), Tivat (Montenegro), Berlín (Germany) and Novo Mesto (Slovenia). The project has aimend to promote the European Green Deal among youngsters, improving their awareness about environmental and climatic issues, improving their knowledge about the role of the European citizens in the Green Deal, and creating synergies among European territories and citizens to protect, conserve and enhance the natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environment-related risks and impacts. By 8 international events organized in each of the involved territories, more than 460 youngsters have participated in seminars, conferences, thematic workshops and peer-to-peer learning sessions about how European Union is dealing with current environmental and climatic challenges, and about which is their own role as EU citizens about EU Green Deal.DEAL4EU was elaborated as a "journey of self-discovery" where "pilgrims" (the young participants) through international events determined their own identity about EU Green Deal. This idea was based on:- 3 events as “wondering phase,” in which participants will explore the EU Green Deal strategy (Spain, Montenegro and Bulgaria).- 3 events as “construction phase” in which participants will reflect about solutions on common EU challenges and their own civic role (Netherlands, Cyprus and Slovenia)- 2 events as “awareness phase” in which participants will promote Green Deal strategy through strong dissemination activities, promoting also their own messages as EU Green Ambassators (Italy and Germany).The project was based on the participatory and “bottom-up” approaches. DEAL4EU promoted the creation of "local working groups" of young volunteers in each target territory in order to stablish local working structures that would promote local initiatives like workshops or dissemination campaigns and would collaborate in the organization/participation in the International projects events. In this sense, DEAL4EU also contributed to the pro-active re-skilling and upskilling of new workers who needed to adapt to the future Green Economy, and also promoted other European values as co-responsability and cooperation (making different young people from different countries and cultures co-responsible of a common value: the future of Europe), democracy (promoting values like equality, participation and transparency), volunteerism (promoting its value and its impact in their own life, and the benefits of solidarity) and sustainability (promoting the stablishment of long term aproaches and strategies as well as the respect of future generations). DEAL4EU counted also on notable digital initiatives as online meetings, dissemination videos and infographics, as well as a whatsapp forum for participants and active social media profiles (Facebook, instagram, etc.). At the final stage of the project, all involved partners have defined a common institutional declaration reflecting an argument for greener Europe, visualizing its fundamental challenges as well as possible lines of work for the future of Europe. Young people and youth organizations, called youth ambassadors, from these countries, have worked together on sharing their visions for a greener Europe. This declaration counted on the support of more than 300 individuals and organizations from the 8 different involved countries.
