Title: European anti-fascism legacy –a tool for fight against contemporary forms of discrimination and intolerance
Summary
Project is designed as an answer on raising hate speech and intolerance, often connected to rights wing populists, targeting new “Other” and new “Enemy” in Europe in general and participating countries: Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in particular. In the Second World War those others were Jews, Roma people, gay/lesbian and some minorities (such as Serbian minority in Croatia) while today discourse of “the other” is focused mostly on migrants, Muslims, but also on Jews and Roma, sexual and ethnic minorities. In all three countries very strong movement of historical revisionism and in Croatia even holocaust negationism (in relation to concentration camp Jasenovac in Croatia) is being implemented. Excpected results are: mobilization of expertise and activism and to connect expert communities from three countries in order to share expertise and knowledge in contemporary context in three countries sharing common history in relation to anti-fascist movement and common contemporary problems related to historical revisionism. Secondly, we expect to raise awareness and availability of information among young people on the values of anti-fascist movement, importance of civic courage under totalitarian regimes and recognition of propaganda leading to crimes against specific social groups. Project is divided into three Work packages corresponding to three specific objectives of the project: Work package I: Valorization of civic engagement in building anti-fascism movement as a specific form of civic disobedience in time of totalitarian regimes, Work package II: Analysis of political construct of “The Other” and “The Enemy” during fascism and Nazism regimes and in contemporary European societies and Work package III : Commemoration of major historical turning points in recent European history : 2000 Proclamation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Project will directly involve 1749 participants and 50 000 more indirectly through media campaigns.
