Summary
The „Minorities Summit in Ludbreg“, acronym: SMiLe was held from 6th to 8th of October 2022 in Ludbreg. The project involved participants from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro and Hungary. The main idea of the project was to connect citizens from EU and non-EU countries who belong to different groups - minorities, vulnerable groups to discuss about social issues related to negative behavior toward others, intergenerational solidarity and minorities’ solidarity. Town Ludbreg wanted to impel discussion and workshops with participants: should minorities be equally situated and threatened by majority of population or domestic people; integration of minorities in local community; intergenerational solidarity and minorities’ solidarity. Also, participants talked about differences between opinions from citizens from different countries and EU and non-EU countries towards minorities’ policies. Main objectives of the project were giving citizens of different nationalities and social groups the opportunity to participate in common activities; promote diversity, tolerance and the respect of common values; contribution to overcome national perceptions by fostering mutual understanding and by creating forum where common solutions can be discussed in a constructive way and stories of participants shared. The objectives of the project was achieved through lectures given by experts from sociology and psychology, workshops that will be based on the new methods such as panel discussion, role play and world cafe. These activities contributed to the development of intercultural dialogue and common identity through the creation of a shared sense of belonging.
