Title: MINORITIES - ADDED VALUE OF EU
Summary
The „Minorities - added value of EU“, acronym: MinAVEU was held from 11 to 13 October 2019. The project involved 312 direct participants from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro and Hungary. Number of indirect project participants was 500 because in project activities participated citizens from Town Ludbreg and members of NGO's and public institutions. The main objective of the project was to connect national minorities with majority population and analyze the influence of minority groups on wider society. The intention of the project was to show the richness of the cultural and linguistic environment in Europe. Also, the main idea for the project came out of the need for creation of the framework for relations between states, associations and people. The specific objectives of the project were: to promote intercultural dialogue by bringing European citizens of different nationalities and different languages together; to raise awareness on the richness of the cultural and linguistic environment in Europe; to promote diversity, tolerance and respect common values and to overcome stereotypes about minorities and other groups. The general and specific objectives of the project were achieved through lectures given by professor at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, workshops that were based on the new methods such as world cafe, panel discussion or debate. These activities contributed to the development of intercultural dialogue and common identity through the creation of a shared sense of belonging. Also, through the common workshops, discussions we strengthened and expanded the democratic public of Europe. The achievement of the project was that we have been able to connect people from different countries, who share a common past and have decided to share their experiences related to the project topic. This project was significant because it involved members of national minorities who shared with others and the majority population their stories and experiences when coming to another country and relations with the majority population. Accordingly, we can say that the main results of the project were achieved, namely the promotion of tolerance and intercultural dialogue, the creation of a tolerant society, the development of understanding towards others and different, and we realized how much are national minorities added value to each community, including the European Union.
