Title: Nonviolent European Resistance
Summary
The nEUres project engaged the European youth (16-35) on the important effort of remembering the historical significant events related to the Nonviolent Resistance to Nazi-Fascism in Europe and contributed to reflect about the values of Civil Society and civic participation in totalitarian regimes both in history and in contemporary times. With the use of various educational activities, training, remembrance tours, nEUres achieved to improve the capacity building of Educators and Youth and the enhancement of participatory practices and active citizenship among young people. Furthermore the project positively impacted the European youths by contributing to increase their engagement in Civil Society enlarging their awareness of the historical background of Europe, contributed to their participation in the EU political and cultural space, face contemporary challenges through a constructive use of nonviolent techniques to resist against new populism, nationalism and raise of discrimination attitudes. As direct results the project increased awareness, especially among educators (in formal and non-formal contexts: such as teachers, families, youth workers, CSOs/sport/leisure operators, etc.) and relevant policy makers, on the Education potential of remembrance actions for tackling the present challenges using the value of memory, particularly highlighting and rehabilitating positive historical experiences to be replicated and readapted to present social and cultural challenges. Finally the nEUres actions expanded the networking of Civil Society Organizations, furtherly enhanced youth engagement and volunteering on remembrance, by supporting joint actions of partnerships, forums for exchange of experiences, discussions of mutual problems, possible solutions and future initiatives to share commitment for EU Remembrance.The expected results of the project were met and are as follows:- Representatives of the countries engaged in workshops activities through national Work Tables;- Guidelines and Digital Archive produced, validated by Scientific Committee, available online freely;- Competences and skills transferred to educators recruited and engaged in each country on how to favour among youth a constructive elaborative thinking around Civil Society and civic participation in contemporary age, starting from the positive experience of European Nonviolent Resistance to nazifascism;- Museums, routes, homes, places of the memory of nonviolent resistance visited by youths and adults; knowledge acquired applied to real experiences of empathy and shared intergenerational reflection on the stories and historical events known in a nonviolent perspective as seeds of hope for future engagement in Civil Society;- Knowledge achieved by youths, educators and tutors on the forms of nonviolent organized/not-organized Resistance: individual/collective stories of solidarity, support and concrete aid to political and racial persecuted, fleeing soldiers and other war victims; the role of women, clandestine press, peasants’ and workers’ struggles, resistance of Jews and others persecuted in concentration camps; the role of teachers, intellectuals and religious men/women;- Identified new dangerous trends and positive potential of youths in local/national/EU contexts, considering the risks of a denial of fundamental human rights already faced by past generations during nazi-fascism, compared with EU values and the courageous reaction of a civil nonviolent Resistance;- nEUres knowledge for civil engagement promoted through conferences, Infodays, communication materials, press releases, social pages, video-documentaries and publications.Countries involved: IT/ES/AT/RO/HU/MK/BENumber of direct participants: 687Number of indirect participants: 5000
