Title: AFRO-EUROPEAN NARRATIVES
Summary
The main results of the Afro-European Narratives Project are: 1) an open-access digital archive of stories from European citizens about their links with African countries and cultures; 2) the development of a storytelling application and a contributive web platform that will continue to receive online content and be administered by the proponent institution [The webportal African-European Narratives [http://www.africaneuropeanaratives.eu/]; 3) the introduction of this digital tool in several schools and universities and associations related to people of African origin or descent (in Portugal, France and Germany); 4) the development of a methodology for the further dissemination of this contributory platform in European schools; 5) the launch of a thematic glossary on Afro-European interculturality with the publication of the first 30 articles and the establishment of a prestigious European editorial commission with a significative participation of researchers of African origin or descent [http://africaneuropeanarratives.eu/en/glossary]; 6) the deepening of cultural dialogue with European organizations linked to African descent and the establishment of links that will be further developed; 7) the holding of a series of public debates, with national impact, on issues related to the postcolonial condition and Afro-European interculturality; 8) the significative empowerment of Afrodescendants in the institution responsible for the project. These results testify to the fulfilment of the project's fundamental objectives: the interconnection between individual and collective memory and the deepening of a sense of European belonging, the promotion of cultural dialogue and the debate of ideas between citizens, the production of knowledge for an informed citizenship and the achievement of these objectives through an active participation of citizens. Concerning the central issue of colonial memory and decolonization processes, the project dealt with the diversity and complexity of experiences related to phenomena of homecoming and diaspora, often marked by tensions and silences in various national contexts. These themes were approached by younger generations as post-memories and related to present issues such as African descent, Afro-European interculturality, new migrations and the cultural and ethnic diversity of European societies. The collection of 206 stories from various European countries has made it possible to find new commonalities (about the ethnical origin, social concerns, hopes and affections) and to reinforce the sense of belonging to a broader reality, capable of transcending some of the national tensions related to the postcolonial condition of various European countries. The project thus showed the importance of deepening this postcolonial condition and cultural dialogue based on the idea of European citizenship.
