Title: Discover our Europe
Summary
The project “Discover our Europe” aimed to fight against euroscepticism through delivering a better understanding of its institutions, its functioning but also its opportunities for European citizens. This project has been led by 8 partners from 7 different countries : France, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Romania, Hungary and Cyprus. The DoE project took the form of events in the 8 European countries of the partnership. These events were split in two parts :-an international seminar composed of conferences and workshops to provide general information as well as more specific information on the EU, -and action organized in the partner’s city schools to raise awareness of students and young people about their opportunities within the EU.Even if each event followed the same guideline, the international conferences’ themes chosen by partners were different : CICIA : European intervention at local level (by Europe Direct), the European funds and European fundings programs. Then, there was a workshop on euroscepticism CBE : European citizenship, ECI, rule of Law, European mobility and European green dealFoundation of knowledge : EU construction and integration, its functioning, euroscepticism through the example of Brexit. It also focused on the EU opportunities for young people.Sojovem :“AZIMUT : dialogues about cultures and human rights. Erasmus’ formula for Europe in the century XXI”. As a follow-up of the conference, a workshop was conducted on the theme of Erasmus+ en the European Solidarity Corps Cibervoluntarios : presentation of opportunities given to European citizens within the EU. It focused on academic and volunteering opportunities, on good practices in European projects and on career opportunities in the EU. DRPDNM : Erasmus+ program and ESC were presented as well as Youth ambassadors and non-formal learning projects. Then, a round-table of young people was organized and they could give their feedback on their experiences within the EU project. Cyprus : Based on local concerns, the discussions focused on the Cyprus situation and the welcoming of migrants and refugees according to their different situations. The different EU support plans towards these target groups were presented and the discussions focused on how to avoid discrimination and how to work towards a better integration of migrants and refugees (debates echoing the war in Ukraine).Eurocircle : the conference focused on the cause of euroscepticism and on young people who experienced a mobility through the program Erasmus+ All these conferences, as well as actions in schools about mobility opportunities through the Erasmus+ programme and ESC, are the DoE’s results. These events resulted in a better understanding of the EU for the EU citizens and raising awareness about the opportunities. A lot of citizens, particularly young people, wanted to learn even more about the EU and to experience mobility opportunities offered by the EU.In total, more than 1400 European citizens were able to participate directly in the various workshops and conferences of the Discover Our Europe project, which is more than 500 people than expected at the beginning of the project. Nearly 100 participants, considered to be in less advantaged situations and almost systematically distant from European issues, were able to learn more about the EU and its opportunities.Nearly 3000 people were indirectly made aware of the EU and its many advantages.
