Title:
Authentic Europe Network
Summary
The project aims to create a sustainable Network of small municipalities with little experience at European level in order to facilitate international cooperation and exchange of good practices among them in the field of rural tourism. Rural areas are usually associated with well preserved natural resources, traditions, and authentic lifestyle. Nevertheless, these areas usually have limited resources for development of enterprises, innovative tourist products and infrastructure. In the long run, these limitations lead to poor economic development, depopulation and lack of qualified personnel, inability for conservation and promotion of the natural resources, cultural monuments and traditions, which forms a vicious circle, as these provide the attraction for the tourists (Vanneste, Ryckaert: 2011). There is evidence, though, that the consolidation into networks of such rural areas is beneficial and enhances the growth and development of their members. For this reason the project objectives are to encourage the development of rural tourism enterprises, promote the conservation and management of the environment and local culture and to lead to the creation of a strong joint tourist destination image. The approach of integrating traditional practices into tourism attractions will enable the full exploitation of the existing natural and cultural resources in the rural areas, encompassing folk arts (music, dance, and rituals), ethnography, customs, traditional food and beverage, handicrafts, natural healing practices etc. The project consists of activities aiming to introduce tools and methods for effective networking to stakeholders; to promote sustainability, competitiveness and respect of local identities; to reinforce the sense of European citizenship by strengthening the relations between European local communities. The target groups are: public authorities, citizens; youth; seniors; small and medium businesses; cultural and tourism organizations.
