High-level Q&A session with EVPs and stakeholders

High-level Q&A session with Executive Vice-President (EVP) for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age, Margrethe Vestager, and EVP for An Economy that Works for People, Valdis Dombrovskis

The Q&A session aimed to elevate the voices of TTC stakeholders by bringing together TTC Co-Chairs EVP Vestager and EVP Dombrovskis and a representative cross-section of TTC stakeholders from industry, academia and civil society to exchange directly on key priority areas for EU-U.S. trade and technology policy. Ultimately, 254 participants attended the Q&A session online and 71 stakeholders attended in-person. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to submit their trade and technology-related questions to EVPs Vestager and Dombrovskis ahead of the event, and from the 87 questions submitted, 11 were selected after a week-long polling exercise through Twitter, LinkedIn and Futurium.

Stakeholders touched upon issues across all 10 Working Groups of the TTC, with a particular concentration of questions related to standardisation – in particular with regard to developments in Artificial Intelligence; global trade challenges – on transatlantic positioning vis-a-vis China, as well as broader transversal questions on EU-U.S. relations and the TTC itself. Questions on climate and clean tech – such as on electric vehicles or the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and supply chains issues, from semiconductors to resilience, were also asked. Additionally, stakeholders raised questions about the promotion and protection of democratic institutions and how the TTC can serve to promote transatlantic values. Overall, stakeholders showed significant interest and deep engagement across the full spectrum of TTC workstreams.
