Europe’s new Open Source Strategy places open source at the centre of technological sovereignty, recognising that transparent, interoperable and sustainable digital solutions are essential to reducing dependency on non-EU technologies and strengthening Europe’s digital resilience.
The strategy promotes a full lifecycle approach to open source, from research and development to deployment, governance and long-term maintenance. It also highlights the importance of open digital ecosystems, public-sector adoption, interoperability and collaboration across borders.
This vision closely aligns with the mission of Simpl. As an open-source, secure and interoperable middleware, Simpl supports data access and sharing across European initiatives, helping to build the foundations of trusted data spaces. In particular, Simpl-Open provides modular, reusable components that enable organisations to implement interoperable data-sharing infrastructures in line with European values and standards.
The new strategy confirms that Europe’s digital future will be built on openness, collaboration and shared innovation. Simpl-Open is already turning these principles into reality.
Now is the time to engage with Simpl-Open. As Europe accelerates its open-source ambitions, adopting and contributing to Simpl-Open will be key to building secure, sovereign and interoperable data ecosystems across the Union.
