Simpl in the ecosystem: a clear place and purpose

At the Annual Community Event, we heard a common question: where does Simpl fit in the wider landscape, and what makes it different? The approach is to integrate proven components and build what is missing, so contributors avoid reinventing the wheel.

In practice, that means alignment with the EU policy framework, including the European Strategy for Data, the Data Governance Act and the Data Act, with identities anchored in eIDAS 2.0.

It also means using established standards and specifications: the Dataspace Protocol for interoperability, W3C ODRL for usage policies, RDF for linked data, and DCAT‑AP for catalogues.

Trust and conformance are supported through compatibility with the Gaia‑X Trust Framework and the DSSC blueprint and building blocks.

Where identity and claims are needed, projects can combine DSP with Decentralized Claims Protocol and W3C Verifiable Credentials.European standardisation is progressing via CEN/CENELEC JTC 25 and related ISO activity, which Simpl tracks closely.
