Animal welfare: 15th meeting of the EU Platform to take place on 17/18 June

Next week, DG SANTE will host the 15th meeting of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare. The meeting, which starts from 2pm on 17 June until 18 June, will provide an opportunity to update the Platform members on the work of the Belgian Presidency on animal welfare and on the priorities of the upcoming Hungarian Presidency. The Commission will present the Staff Working Document summarising evidence supporting the legislative proposal on the welfare of dogs and cats and their traceability, as well as the feedback from citizens on this proposal and on the proposal on the protection of animals during transport.

The agenda also includes the presentation of EFSA’s activities related to the welfare of beef cattle, turkeys, fur animals and horses, an update of the work of the four EU Reference Centres on Animal Welfare and on the Better Training for Safer Food Program.

Furthermore, the members will be informed on the Strategic Dialogue on the future of Agriculture and on the results of two important research projects: ClearFarm and PPILOW.

Finally, the outcome of the call for applications and future tasks of the new subgroup on animal welfare policy indicators will be presented and an exchange will take place on the functioning of the Platform and its achievements.

The meeting will be web-streamed (from 14:00 CET on 17 June & from 9:30 CET on 18 June).
