Welcome to the special IDAFLW edition of the Hub’s newsletter!

On Friday 29 September the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) will be observed for the fourth time.

This year the international day makes a clear call to for public and private entities to take action to reduce food loss and waste to support the transformation of agrifood systems and contribute to the achievement of the 2030 agenda.

In 2021, the Commission launched the EU Food Loss and Waste Prevention Hub to mark the international day. Two years later, the Hub gathers 300+ resources and news and more than 2500 subscribers stay up to date with the latest food loss and waste prevention developments every month.

Last but not least, we are pleased to announce the launch of our official LinkedIn page for the EU Health and Food Safety. 🎉 Follow us to stay up-to-date with the latest developments on EU actions and policies related to health and food safety as well as food sustainability.

Public event in Brussels organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Belgium

Join the in-person public event ''Réagir, Agir et Réduire'', listen to experts at the panel debate, visit the aquaponics BIGH farm, get cooking tips from celebrated chef Isabelle Arpin and see the film “A Brigade”.

FAO and UNEP organizes an IDAFLW lunch debate in Brussels

The debate takes place at BE-HERE sustainable village with representatives of the European Commission, the City of Brussels and a Member of the Belgian Federal Parliament. Join us for thought-provoking discussions on reducing food loss and waste.

Annual meeting in Normandy for food waste reduction

On September 29, RÉGAL Normandie invites stakeholders to Rouen to discuss food waste reduction actions, under the theme of ‘food accessibility’.

Good Food Festival ''Snip Party'' in Braunschweig, Germany

On 30 September, an in-person public event organized by the Food Council Braunschweig will take place in Braunschweig, Germany. The event will focus on how to use surplus food, serve vegan dishes, provide information on food loss and waste prevention, and on sustainable and healthy diets.

RETASTE 2023 Conference on food waste prevention at Harokopio University, Athens

Hybrid Workshop on Food Waste Prevention will be held on 29 September at Harokopio University in Athens as part of the RETASTE 2023 Rethink Food Resources, Loses and Waste Conference.

Save the Food organizes online campaign and September Against Food Waste challenge in Czechia

Throughout September Save the Food reaches out to Czech consumers with an online competition and practical online materials on how not to waste food.

The annual food waste campaign "Respect food completely!" targeting families in Estonia

This year, communication activities are launched via SoME focusing on reducing food waste in families with children. The campaign will take place from 25th to 29th September.

The Ministry of Climate of Estonia is organizing a seminar on 28th of September to discuss sustainable catering practices.

Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España sends a dedicated newsletter, highlighting cooperatives' actions to prevent food waste.

“Recucing food saves money” key message in Norway

Matvett will launch a digital consumer campaign from September 25th to 29th. Matvett is also collaborating with Too Good To Go and the Norwegian Food Banks to raise awareness among all users of the Too Good To Go app, especially those who collect food on September 29th.

"Yes, you CAN save food" online campaign by APEAL

During an online campaign the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (APEAL) will share a series of lighthearted films, which show how steel cans, the most recycled packaging material in Europe, can help brands, retailers and consumers save food and reduce waste.

WASTELESS IDAFLW activities

The EU-funded WASTELESS project will actively communicate about food loss and waste in a social media campaign running from 18th to 29th of September.

International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste hybrid event by FAO and UNEP

FAO and UNEP are hosting a global hybrid event on 29 September at 16:00 hrs CEST with messages from His Holiness Pope Francis and Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

IDAFLW Webinar ‘Too good to waste: Ending food waste in Australia’

Stop Food Waste Australia is hosting a webinar about solutions to prevent and reduce food waste on Thursday, 28 September.

World Food Forum is launching a Youth Towards Zero Food Waste Campaign!

Within the Youth Towards Zero Food Waste Campaign a number of interactive online workshops will take place on 11 and 27 September.

This is the monthly newsletter of the EU Food Loss and Waste Prevention Hub, incorporating information on the latest activities of its members. The newsletter is created and disseminated by the Platform’s Secretariat, within the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.
