The aim of the conference was to stimulate an informed and open debate among all stakeholders on how the EU can benefit from modern biotechnologies and innovation in the food and agricultural sector while maintaining high safety standards.
The updated measures aim at protecting the EU single market from these serious contagious animal diseases. The Commission continues to follow the evolution of the epidemiological situation and adapts the measures accordingly.
Food and drink policies for better heart health – a message from Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis
A meeting to gather stakeholder feedback as part of the evaluation of the EU blood, tissues and cells legislation took place in Brussels on September 20th. The legislation covers the fields of blood transfusion, transplantation of tissues, such as corneas and heart valves, bone marrow transplantation and assisted reproduction.
INTEGRATE Joint Action is a three year project (2017-2020) receiving 80% co-funding under the third EU Health Programme. It brings together 29 partners from public health institutions, hospitals, NGOs and universities in Europe. The main aim of the Joint Action is to integrate early diagnosis and linkage to prevention and care of HIV, viral hepatitis, TB and STIs in EU countries by 2020.
The European Commission adopted two legal acts aimed at improving patient safety in the EU through good manufacturing practices (GMP) that ensure the highest quality of medicines for human use.
Since 2015, the Commission has launched specific actions to support those Member States under particular migratory pressure. The aim is to improving healthcare for migrants by integrating this vulnerable population into national healthcare systems and by providing relevant training for healthcare professionals and care providers.
"CHRODIS Plus" (2017-2020) is a Joint Action which aims to support EU countries in implementing initiatives to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases.
Guidance was made available in order to assist Member States and food business operators to better understand the food hygiene rules and how to implement them in specific sectors.
On 26 September, the European Commission hosted a high level conference with all Member States to discuss the follow-up of the Fipronil incident.
