Examples of citizen science in action

Citizen science is the collection and analysis of scientific data by the general public as part of a collaborative research project with professional scientists. What different forms does it take in the context of the Green Deal, and how does it help research projects?

In this article we highlight examples of citizen science in action and how they are contributing to our understanding of the impacts of climate change, informing urban planning decisions and bringing about behaviour change.

Ensuring a fair and just transition to a climate-neutral economy

The green transition will bring changes to the way we live, move and work. A fair transition towards climate neutrality in the European Union by 2050 will ensure that no one is left behind, especially those in already vulnerable situations.

In this update we look at two projects that demonstrate the importance of this approach. The first explores pathways to a more just and sustainable Europe, and the second maps out inspiring citizen-led initiatives that support vulnerable groups in response to climate change.

Projects: Shared Green Deal and ACCTING

Delivering a Green Deal where no one is left behind

ACCTING is funding innovative projects that aim to reduce or prevent inequalities and negative impacts on poorer, marginalised and vulnerable groups.

10 ideas for pilot actions have been identified that have high potential to address vulnerabilities in the areas of the European Green Deal. Pilots will be awarded, funded (up to €32,000 each) and tested through this call, which closes on 8 September 2023.
