Our Success Stories special

Welcome to this special issue in which we spotlight the fantastic examples of cutting edge research and innovation from the EU Green Deal Call-funded projects.

We'll take a look at the groundbreaking technologies, collaborative efforts and impressive achievements from four working groups' projects that are driving our green transition to a climate neutral Europe. Demonstrating solar-powered electric mobility for mototaxis

Clean Energy working group

ENERGICA aims to showcase the efficient implementation of renewable energy technologies to match local energy needs.

In this success story the project demonstrates the implementation of Africa’s first electric service station, offering a holistic and hassle-free riding experience to electric motorcycle users.

Developing a revolutionary smart grid data management system

Clean Energy working group

In a research pilot, the HYPERGRYD project demonstrated a revolutionary data collection strategy using internet of things (IoT), to greatly enhance the availability of smart grid data throughout the energy system.

The learnings from this approach can be implemented in other data-intensive integrated networks of smart energy districts.

Revitalising coastal ecosystems

Climate Change and Biodiversity working group

REST-COAST has successfully implemented a nature-based nourishment technique in the Ebro Delta, Spain, demonstrating the real potential of the methodology to restore similar coastal systems.

In this success story the project has demonstrated the transferability of its nature-based solution by extending sand dune nourishment to other Mediterranean beaches.

Supporting decarbonisation through local SECAPs and SDGs

Climate Change and Biodiversity working group

Project LOCALISED introduced a set of potential indicators for assessing risks and vulnerabilities to Climate Change within both Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) frameworks at once.

This output will save time and effort for users, support monitoring for assessment and enable standardisation for benchmarking and comparison.

ZeroPM is taking the lead against environmental pollution by persistent and mobile substances.

Food and Health working group

In this success story the Agro2Circular project is accelerating the upcycling of agri-food wastes through innovative ways to increase their value.

The process and products will be completely traceable through an innovative ICT platform that functions as a predictive tool for supporting decisions.

Raising awareness of air pollution amongst citizens

Knowledge and Citizens working group

SOCIO-BEE tackles urban air pollution by engaging communities and citizen science.

Across European cities, it uses technology and interactive experiences to raise environmental awareness and spur action. Its successful pilots pave the way for broad community engagement, fostering healthier cities and sustainability.

Knowledge and Citizens working group

I-CHANGE actively involves citizens in environmental science, demystifying the field and making it accessible to the wider community. This strategy boosts environmental awareness and fosters sustainable lifestyles and consumption habits.

The recent Genoa Living Lab demonstrates how citizen science can engage the public in environmental monitoring, cultivating a community focused on sustainability.

Webinar: The role of cities and regions in governing the green transition

23 September, 11:00 - 12:30

Join us for a webinar which will bring together projects that put into practice innovative solutions that support the governance of the green transition within regional and municipal authorities.

At this session, the projects will share their experiences, including the challenges encountered and practical solutions developed, as they contribute to EU policy discussions ahead of the forthcoming European Week of Regions and Cities on 7-10 October.
