Euro: 20 years of the single currency

Celebrating 20 years of existence, the euro is the common currency to 19 Member states and 340 million Europeans. It was launched on the 1st of January 1999 together with an agreement on a shared monetary policy under the supervision of the European Central Bank; a milestone in the EU's history.
