El pasado 21 de septiembre celebramos el primer aniversario del CETA con excelentes resultados tal y como ponen de manifiesto algunas empresas españolas, que demuestran el impacto positivo que ha tenido el acuerdo en nuestro país durante este primer año de vigencia.
Dos ejemplos de empresas son, por un lado, Graphenea, una pyme tecnológica y muy innovadora del País Vasco, que fabrica grafeno, un material súper ligero y duro a la vez y que desde finales de 2017 ha consolidado su presencia en el mercado canadiense con nuevos clientes y una casi triplicación de la cifra de negocio. Por otro lado, las empresas del sector de alimentación y bebidas, representadas en España por la FIAB, han aumentado sus exportaciones a Canadá en un 18% en 2017 y casi el 9% en el primer semestre del 2018. Esto pone de manifiesto que desde la entrada en vigor del CETA, el sector ha crecido tanto como en los diez años anteriores.
Además, este verano, Donald Trump y Jean-Claude Juncker se reunieron para aliviar las tensiones comerciales entre EE.UU. y la UE. El resultado, una agenda comercial positiva con EE.UU. que ha evitado nuevos aranceles en el sector de la automoción y que se traducirá, ojalá, en una bajada arancelaria generalizada para bienes industriales, una revisión de los aranceles impuestos en los últimos meses sobre acero y aluminio, una mayor cooperación para reducir trabas administrativas y regulatorias con el objetivo de ahorrar costes y una mejora del funcionamiento de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC). La declaración firmada por ambos Presidentes, además prevé una mayor cooperación en temas energéticos. Por lo tanto, un acuerdo especialmente positivo para nuestras empresas y para los 15 millones de trabajadores que dependen del comercio transatlántico. La UE espera que estás negociaciones se aceleran en las próximas semanas.
En lo que respecta al debate público, a finales del mes de septiembre Jochen Müller se reunió en Málaga con sindicatos, medios de comunicación, empresas de la región y estudiantes para hablar de libre comercio y sociedades abiertas. Reuniones que fueron un gran éxito y que agradecieron todos los asistentes como ejemplo de transparencia y diálogo de la CE con la sociedad.
Estos encuentros con sindicatos, prensa, mundo empresarial y sociedad civil van a continuar en otras regiones de España para seguir dando a conocer la agenda comercial de la Unión Europea y con el objetivo de que todos #HablemosDeComercio.
