The Commission has approved an investment of more than €127 million from the Cohesion Fund to solve water supply problems by developing the water and wastewater infrastructure in Buzău county, Romania.

In total, 170,392 inhabitants will benefit from the water and wastewater network upgrades.
Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: “This project is a good example of how cohesion policy, via infrastructure investments, is concretely tackling local challenges. The project will save water, give citizens access to clean water and also create new jobs during its implementation phase.”
The project will upgrade 13 water supply systems, create 57 water sources extraction points, lay 16 km of sewage collectors and 430 km of sewerage network pipes.
The upgrades of the system will strengthen the local water network’s compliance with the EU Drinking Water and Urban Wastewater directives. This prevents high water losses, insufficient flow and inadequate quality of water from local sources.
