Family allowances for children turning 18 during the 2024/2025 school year
date: 16/09/2024
Dear colleague,
According to our information, your child(ren) is / are turning 18 during this school year (September 2024 – June 2025).
This implies some changes:
· Between 18 and 26 children are considered as dependent only if they are following educational or vocational training (including evening courses or distance learning). (art.2.3 Annex VII of EU Staff Regulations).
Consequently you are required to provide a copy of a certificate of enrolment in your school declaration (A template in all languages is available here: Primary/Secondary (europa.eu))
· We would like to remind you that the school declaration is linked to your entitlements to family allowances (dependent children, education, and household allowance on behalf of your child) and derived benefits (reimbursement of travel expenses, tax deduction, JSIS coverage).
If you don’t submit an education declaration, your corresponding rights and the payment of the mentioned allowances will be automatically stopped the month following the 18th birthday of your child.
More information on how to submit your annual education declaration in SYSPER is available here: Invitation to submit your annual education declaration in SYSPER (europa.eu)
