Coming soon: SYSPER - Automatic indexation of Belgian family allowances

Do you or your spouse, former spouse or a third person receive Belgian family allowances for one or more of your dependent children?

date:  06/06/2024

The PMO is pleased to inform you of a significant improvement which will make the process of updating your Belgian family allowances faster and easier.

Until now, you were required to declare the allowances in SYSPER (irrespective of whether it is you, your spouse, former spouse or a third person who received them).

From now on, we will update them automatically for you. 1

What does this mean?

In practice, after every indexation of the Belgian family allowances, the PMO will refer to the official amounts published by the Belgian regions and will update your file based on this information.

The first phase of the automatic indexation will be executed in SYSPER during the second half of June 2024 and will be visible on the pension/salary slip of July. Only the indexations from September 2023 for Flanders and November 2023 and May 2024 for Brussels and Wallonia will be implemented.

In case you have already submitted a declaration in SYSPER for these periods, no action is required from you. Regardless of whether you have submitted a declaration or not, after the automatic update is executed, you will receive an official notification from SYSPER.

In the next step, we will start the automatic indexation process for previous periods.

We draw your attention to the fact that depending on your personal situation you will still need to update your file in SYSPER.

You will still need to update your file by submitting a declaration in SYSPER if:

  • you receive family allowances paid by one of the Belgian regions but have never submitted a declaration

  • you see a discrepancy between the amount deducted in SYSPER and the amount you effectively received from the regional fund

  • you receive a double dependent child allowance for a child with a disability or long-term illness or who is orphaned

  • there has been a change in your personal situation that impacts your national family allowances

  • you are receiving family allowances from another country or from an international organisation, such as the United Nations, NATO, Eurocontrol, ECB, EIB, etc.

  • in case the payment of family allowances is refused by the Region in charge of your file

If you do not have an EU Login access to connect to SYSPER, we kindly suggest you read the page “External EU Login” to submit your request to access the IT tools.

The SYSPER POST ACTIVITY application allows faster and more secure communication while offering you a range of services such as changing your address and/or family composition, access to your pension slips, certificates, and historical data. As from February 2024 you also have access to your individual rights Sysper page.

1 Since 2017, the Belgian regions pay different amounts of the family allowances. As a result, the Belgian family allowances paid to staff residing in Belgium were no longer automatically updated in Sysper.
