The IT Tools Behind The Important Business Of JSIS

Read about the ongoing IT projects that are striving to improve the lives of all beneficiaries of JSIS.

date:  22/11/2022

The JSIS world is a very important, delicate and, for its data, sensitive one. For this reason, the commitment given to the entire IT structure behind it is at the highest level. Before diving further into how the IT elements have helped all JSIS beneficiaries to manage their medical expenses, we must mention the reorganization of the PMO.

The whole organization has been reviewed with a view of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our work. The KM group has made a strong contribution with the archiving of knowledge, not only that of the sickness and accident insurance. New meeting structures have also been put in place within the PMO (i.e ChAB meetings) to streamline and prioritise the information between the business and IT teams

The IT part of JSIS (AssMal2 and JSIS online) is a fundamental aspect. It provides the necessary tools to the PMO colleagues required for the management, monitoring and control of all medical expenses of each beneficiary.

Recently, the teams have been involved in a revision of the back office module from an old and obsolete technology (Flex) towards an "agile" platform on an architecture called “Angular”. The transition to Angular posed a significant challenge, as both platforms are very different in how they are designed. Replicating actions from Flex in Angular is quite complex if not impossible at times. However, the teams have been closely following up the situation with all the colleagues involved, carrying out analysis to rectify the problems in order to proceed with a smoother transition from the Flex technology in the coming months.

PMO Mobile has become the best friend of JSIS Online – all clients can now view their entire file of reimbursements, submit a request, consult their account sheets and submit an accident declaration all through this easy to use format!

Furthermore, in collaboration with DIGIT, the teams always implement the strongest safety measures to the JSIS IT tools to protect the data of all beneficiaries, which includes the recent implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication.

The strategy and vision for medical reimbursements

The world of JSIS Online and AssMal2 are highly focused on:

  • making the lives of the beneficiaries as simple as possible and
  • improving at a political level through the interaction with health care systems from the Member States.

The project NHS (National Healthcare Systems) was launched recently and aims to interface JSIS with different local healthcare systems. The pilot of this project is the CZ case, the local healthcare system of the Netherlands. Once implemented, any active or post-active affiliate who are living or working in the Netherlands will be able to subscribe to CZ through JSIS Online if they so wish. This means that medical expenses will no longer need to be entered in JSIS Online, but rather the local system, CZ, will send the data of the beneficiary directly to JSIS in an automatic manner.

To broaden the scope of this project, the next local systems in consideration are that of the Lombardy region in Italy, and the Belgian system. The development with the local system in Belgium in particular, MyCareNet, will go even further, as it will look to eliminate the concept of the reimbursement request since the communication between JSIS and the Belgian system will provide for ‘realtime’ exchange of data to manage the expense and payment concerned. This will greatly improve the lives of the colleagues residing in Belgium who will only have to monitor the flow of information that comes from the local Belgian system.

The improvements to the IT tools behind JSIS continue to improve internally too. The teams are also currently running a project with DG HR to improve the management of annual visits and to revise the screening program. This project will no doubt make the link between Medical Service and JSIS even stronger.

Another important ongoing project relates to E-FAC with the Belgian hospitals. Excellent results have already been achieved with the ERASME hospital which has led to a reduction in treatment times by more than 2/3. The same procedure is being analyzed for the association with hospitals in Luxembourg.

The IT team behind JSIS online are committed to supporting the tarifacteurs and users of JSIS by implementing modern and effective developments that allow for a better work experience.
