Four decades in, the European Capitals of Culture are promoting cultural diversity in Europe. 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of this flagship EU action that, over the years, has brought together cities, regions, countries and, most importantly, people. 
 
Today, the European Commission is reviewing how this much-loved initiative can remain relevant, inclusive and impactful, while continuing to build on its legacy.
