date: 07/10/2024
The European Commission and the European Innovation Council have published a report on the socio-economic impact and sustainability potential of the EU proximity economy. This human-centric approach focuses on producing, distributing, and consuming goods and services locally, supported by strong social connections.
The report shows how local collaboration and relationships can drive innovation and sustainability across regions. It highlights 168 policies supporting proximity economy ecosystems in the EU27 and the UK, providing examples of successful initiatives. Five case studies demonstrate innovative business models that show the social and environmental benefits of this approach.
