New EEA monitoring tool reviews progress on plastics circularity in Europe
date: 23/06/2024
The European Environment Agency (EEA) recently released a briefing titled "The role of plastics in Europe’s circular economy", which highlights the unsustainable nature of plastic production and consumption across Europe. The briefing emphasizes the need to transition to a more circular approach to reduce waste, pollution, and negative environmental impacts, including those related to climate change.
Alongside this briefing, the EEA introduced a new monitoring tool as part of the Circularity Metrics Lab. This tool focuses on assessing the progress of plastics circularity in Europe, providing in-depth insights and technical information for policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.
